Although the back looks quiet, according to the geographical feature near the bank, probably the motion changed and the wave has rolled.
「打廻す波」が描かれています。言葉どおり、波の動きに主眼を置いた絵で、岩に打ち寄せる波が様々な方向に動いている様子です。奥はおだやかに見えますが、岸辺近くの地形によって動きが変わり、波が逆巻いているのでしょう。手前の波の表現は、浮世絵の波の描き方と同じであり、波の頂点から飛び散る水滴が量感を持って描かれています。このような波の描き方を見ると、日本海の波が連想されます。
