「荊棘の花」「龍胆」が描かれています。「荊棘」は刺のある木の総称らしいですが、絵を見ると「バラ」で良いかと思います。枝に刺は見られるのですが、花弁の感じがボッテリとしており牡丹のようにも見えます。葉の表現が独特で、バラの葉の光沢を出すためか黒塗りの表現も取り入れています。「龍胆」は「リンドウ」と読み、リンドウ科の多年草で秋の七草の一つです。花の配置が装飾的であり、着物の図柄にも使えそうなほどです。
